How many boards do you need?

Enter your furniture, choose the build method for each item — the calculator adds up panel area, timber and weight and tells you how many boards to buy.

Step 1 — your furniture

Dimensions in centimetres; shelves means the shelf boards inside the item. Without dimensions a row does not count.

Three example items are entered. Overwrite them with yours.

W = width, D = depth, H = height, shelves = shelf boards. All dimensions in cm.

Step 2 — boards and material

How it is calculated

For each item and build method the same material area results as for the weight: for the closed box base, lid and four walls, for the open box without the lid, for the carcass ring only the walls. Shelves are added as extra areas. The total divided by the board area gives the number of sheets, rounded up and increased by your waste allowance.

Open frames are not made of boards but of timber: four corner posts and two struts running all round. The calculator counts that length separately and names the cross-section the app would choose automatically. Frame with panelling appears in both columns, timber plus a thin outer skin.

What the calculator cannot do

It calculates areas, not a real cutting plan. How well your parts nest on a board depends on the dimensions — hence the waste allowance, preset to 15 per cent. With many small parts you can raise it; with a few large ones less is enough.

From requirement to plan

In the app you draw the same furniture to scale into the vehicle, including wheel arches and roof taper — with a material list as PDF and CSV.
